How Will The Coronavirus Affect Your Amazon Business?

Richard Ren rejoins the show and talks about the recent coronavirus breakout in China. In this episdoe, we separate the myths from the facts and delve into coronavirus and its background, impact and how it can affect you business.

Coronavirus Outbreak in China

  • People have been advised to skip China until May 2020.
  • People are delayed from coming back to work after the Chinese New Year.
  • Right before the Chinese New Year, there were 27 reported cases. 2 were treated while 7 were diagnosed as severe cases.
  • Around after the 3rd of January, there was a concentration of reported cases in the Wuhan area.
  • Right now, Wuhan is in a lock down.
  • What made it worse is that this happened during the Spring festival.
  • Coronavirus is airborne and causes flu-like symptoms.
  • Avoid crowded area.
  • Wear N95 masks or protection in areas with confirmed cases.
  • It is not as deadly as SAR or Swine flu.

How this affects Amazon Sellers

  • Chinese New Year holiday is extended to until the first week of February.
  • If you have agents, factories in the Hubei area or Guangdong area but workers are from Hubei, then your supply will definitely be affected.
  • The lock down means nobody gets in or gets out so workers who went on vacation in Wuhan can not get back to work.

What to do?

  • Send messages to your suppliers and let them know they (and their families) are in your thoughts.
  • If there is a similar product within your niche or ready to sell products, if you an find the source and redirect the traffic to that. This will be possible.
  • Keep in close contact with your factory, if they are affected by the outbreak, and check if they have other contacts where you can connect to for the mean time for your supply/ products temporarily.
    • Many factories combine resources together.
  • Make sure you have reliable news sources.
  • Do not fly in to check on your suppliers.
  • Don’t panic, this is unfortunate but it will pass.
  • If you are in China, avoid the public area, or public transportation.
