Troubleshoot Index Issues with Brandon Young

Brandon Young drops by and discusses with Danny multiple ways to troubleshoot and resolve indexing issues on Amazon. Make sure you listen all the way through for some surprises.

?Index Troubleshooting Tips!

  • Remove the Pipes. Adding the pipes/bars or this icon: | on your title will confuse the algorithms and you will not index anything on your title. Quick fix: add a dash or a capital letter I if you wanted something like a separator on your title.
  • Solidify your indexing through your competitors by running a product targeting ad and keyword targeting campaign. Be careful on what competitors you are getting compared to.
  • Take advantage of your first few sales like your honeymoon period.
  • Do a reverse ASIN on your own ASIN to figure out what Amazon thinks you are selling.
  • Create a broad campaign and see what suggestions Amazon tries to give you. If Amazon is suggesting keywords not relevant to your product then there is a problem somewhere. Go back to square one and get that fixed.
  • Some hacks for your first few days of product launch/sales (not recommended – not sure if this is grey or black hat)
    • If you have a list of customers  (loyal ones) who are willing to add to cart a competitor’s product and yours but then just buys your product instead — it is not hurting your competitor but if that happens, then Amazon will map your index with theirs.
  • Seller Legend shows your change history. You can see if you have been moved this way.
    • One way of knowing – if there have been a change and you have been moved to another category on your nodes.
  • Keyword density? There is no benefit in repeating keywords, unless the keyword is part of a broader phrase then that phrase will be repeated so if you are selling a wireless charger, then it will be repeated as standing wireless charger.
  • Make sure your keyword is credited on your title rather than somewhere you don’t get credited for it.
  • If you see a drop in any keyword — that is an indicator that there is something wrong. You need to re-diagnose.Could be any of the following:
    • Indicates the ad is not working.
    • Turn on additional marketing that you don’t always run.
  • Common mistakes when PPC is causing more damage than good:
    • Wrong PPC equals pushing it more and ending with higher cost.
  • Will sending tickets to Amazon, help your indexing? If you need anything done then CALL. Either the US team or the Costa Rica seller support.
  • Protect yourself from contributions. Make sure to fill up all the spaces in your flat file.
  • Prevention? Make sure you are brand registered.
