Coronavirus Update with Chris Davey, Steve Simonson and Kian Golzari

[et_bloom_inline optin_id=optin_3]

In this episode, Chris Davey, Steve Simonson and Kian Golzari joins us with updates on COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) from the ground and news from the factories in China.

Statistics and factories reopening

  • Cases have shot up from 2,000 to 14,000 — China is now reporting on clinical tests. Most of the cases are in Hubei.
  • Keep in touch with the people on the ground to get stories right.
  • For instance, Chenzhou only got 8 cases. Hubei is a different story.
  • Each province differs and the date when factories go back to work, depends on their location.
  • COVID-19 or Novel Coronavirus map and data: http://www.centerforhealthsecurity.org/resources/COVID-19/index.html

Who are at risks

  • Based on some cases — it can be anyone at risk.
  • Connect with your factories, ask “how they are” and not just ask about how your orders are being affected.
  • Ask how they are doing, common courtesy. Do not ask business questions right away.

Back to work?

  • Offices are back to work, but for factories some are saying they will be opening March 1st.
    • Get information from your factories. Stay connected.

Impact to business

  • There are purchases ahead of time —
    • Some are pending shipping on ports WHEN ports will open again.
    • We have materials already in stock.
    • And none of them are back in production.
    • People can not get to work because of the government imposed restrictions.
  • Supply lines will dry out BUT you can re-route production in other factories but that is applicable only in factories outside China and with Chinese ownership.
  • A lot of delays and check with your freight forwarders– people in customs are not back to work yet and you can get a lot of charges in the ports for storage fees.
  • Make sure you are shipping at the right rates.
  • Small factories will be impacted.
  • Your factory may be ready to work but somehow somewhere there is an issue with supply getting tied up.

Essentials – Take Note!

  • Communicate with your freight forwarders and suppliers
  • Be prepared for a lot of chaos and uncertainty.
  • Be patient and reasonable.
  • Keep calm. Whining will not get you anywhere.
  • Check raw materials and workers FIRST before sending money out to factories.
  • Do a pre-inspection and post inspection
  • Look for gross-profit contribution. You might need to raise prices BUT this will affect your ranking and the buy-box.
  • Ride out the wave! Do not ramp your prices up too much.
  • We are in this business to solve problems.
  • This is a key opportunity to strengthen your relationships.
