Trends and tests for images

  • The most important thing is the image. This peeks the consumer interest.
  • Every single case is different but there are trends we have seen:
    • Use as much of the canvas as much as possible.
    • Use a zoomed in shot versus tiny product with a lot of white around it.
    • When you can, add text where you can — packaging, label or text call outs on the white space around the imaging.
    • Consider testing showing packaging
    • People want to see what they are getting: like bottles, boxes.
      • This hits the perceived value.
  • Use props depending on the product. Complicated products benefit from demonstration shots.
  • In congested categories, most images look the same. Do something different. 
    • For bundles or collections, show everything that your customer will get. Do not stack them all together.
      • Get them organized and spread out depending on how many they are getting and so on.

Product testing

  • Ask the right questions or the right way of asking the question.
  • Question structure: when asking a question, give them the context and ask the question.
    • Example, when shopping on Amazon, which product would you choose.
  • You can structure your questions and send them to your sample target market.
