Howard Thai joins us in this episode where he will be answering questions on Black Hat and how you can protect yourself on the Amazon platform.
A bit of a background
- As of this episode, Howard is in isolation in HK and is in quarantine since Day 1.
- Howard is knows as the “Professor”, he has been an Amazon seller since 2009 and has set up shop in China.
- In 2015, Howard sold hover boards. There were problems with the battery with some hover boards, but Howard’s listing was doing well .
- Then Amazon ordered a recall of all hoverboards to be destroyed in the UK.
Bad Reviews and Up Votes
- Make sure to have someone you can talk to in Amazon. Make sure you have an SEM.
- Hire one because you need a direct line with Amazon if people attack you.
- Mark all case numbers done, and report all of them.
- Negative reviews –
- Look at the products and make sure you track and document if you get a lot of them.
- You can contact Amazon and let them know that this is happening.
Flagged as inauthentic listing
- As long as you can prove that your products are not bad quality and go back and look at the people who returned it and report this people who did this.
- Some people go in and return this and they will place bad reviews.
- A few of these are: these are fake, these are unsafe.
- Try to go and see if you can find these people and track.
- Brand registry can find who is doing these to your listings.
- It is not standard support, it is generally quicker.
- It is your first port call.
- As long as you can prove that your products are not bad quality and go back and look and report this to brand registry.
Face or Missing Certifications
- Example: masks. There are FDA and non-FDA approved.
- People may report that you are selling a fake FD approved item.
- Make sure before you sell, you know everything about it and you submit the documents beforehand.
- Make sure to have appropriate documentation.
Add to Cart
- It is a signal that a product is popular.
- There should be conversion to back it up.
- Make sure to have a stream of velocity of sales so you can maintain rank.
- Can not be sustained without sales.
Amazon Removing Reviews
- If a bad review is removed and then re-appears–how do you fix this?
- Document this: the removal and the re-appearance.
- Try to find who is doing this negative reviews.
- Try to see this relationship and see if you can track the seller doing this and report them
Listing Attacked!
- Over-all suggestion: go in and get a SEM
- Have someone help you from the back end.
- Make sure you have Brand Registry
- Make sure you have transparency and Project Zero (you can push and you can get it).
- For your product itself, make sure you have all the fields on the flat file filled up.
- Go to Amazon Support and request for a listings report, fill them all up and make sure to re-upload/ refresh every week.
- This is your catalogue contribution. DO NOT LEAVE IT EMPTY.
Sock Puppet Accounts
- Amazon is doing a good job in finding the puppet accounts
- Escalate to Jeff and other departments.
- You have people you can talk to about this.
Vendor Central Attacks!
- Amazon is disabling a lot of vendor central accounts.
- It costs too much to do this bad attacks — it is not worth it now.
- It does happen sometimes but very rarely.
Where are things going?
- Will China normalize?
- A lot of the new cases are now imported cases.
- Stringent testings are in place.
- Make sure ALL your listings are in place: certifications, documents and people that you can contact.
- Be persistent in reporting these attacks!
- One day, hopefully, you can get your brand.
- Keep getting and documenting this case numbers.
- Do not start your account or set up listings of masks or medical supplies if you can because you might get your account suspended.
