Zack Franklin joins us from Bangkok following his swift departure from China due to the Coronavirus outbreak. He drops some inside knowledge on the competition on the ground.
Situation in China
- Factories will open up by February 10 but not many will be back.
- There is high turnover after the Chinese new year.
- February, March and April will not be very stable due to the job-hunting that is an after effect.
- Plus factories losing most of their expert workers to turnover.
- The government in China have taken over face mask and medical supply factories.
- China is still the best country for sourcing but now is not a good time.
- As a side-effect of the situation, Chinese sellers are not at their best at this time and for the next few months while they take time to recover.
Flexibility
- Try other markets for now in Asia and Africa.
- Try other suppliers. Continue working on your business and finding alternative sources.
- Have the ability to move and be flexible about your business.
